Educational Philosophy

It is our educational philosophy that all children can learn with the right curriculum, effective teachers using an appropriate curriculum, and in a carefully crafted environment.  Wonderland Angels Early Learning Center bases its curriculum on several important research based teaching methods and techniques:  multimodal learning, center-based learning, cross aged learning, age appropriate learning environments, and social and emotional learning, and culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy. Although all children can learn, they learn through different modalities. As a learning center, our task is two-fold: to provide multi-modal learning environment, and to do this through the center based environments. Therefore, all children can be taught regardless of their preferred learning modes. As early childhood educators, we equally acknowledge that children learn from their environment. Our environment is a safe space for children to learn and grow.  Each age group requires a different environment; therefore, each group has their own indoor and outdoor environment. All children are different.  Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching and Learning is part of our basic curriculum. We employ culturally relevant teaching and learning to build  a sense of self and community that will create a sense of self-esteem and self confidence throughout life.  Acknowledgement and validation (especially of our children’s culture and language) is a keystone to building social and emotional development.  Although our program is child-centered, we deem academics to be very significant. Academics are presented through the attractive curriculum and teaching methods of the A Beka Curriculum. Additionally, we are incorporating the use of technology in order to create 21st century learners.  We are also adding second language acquisition by exposing our children to Spanish.   Since the first five years are the most influential in acquiring another language, we would like to start here.  Another area of importance is STEAM (Science,Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics).  We are providing a space where they can use their natural curiosity to explore science, leverage technology, discover engineering, delve into the arts, and apply mathematics to the real world.  The power of STEAM will be embedded in them during these formidable years.  There is no doubt that we can reach our children’s developmental milestones and academic benchmarks because our program’s philosophy equally focuses on academics as well as the social, emotional, linguistic, cognitive, and physical development.  Our approach is holistic because we target the development of the whole child.
